GatherRound

Our lives have been saturated with virtual interaction and digital tools to the point that there is now a demand for physical human interaction. This project asked, how can we better design the web to create an experience that builds connections or community in the physical world?

GatherRound is a board game sharing and hosting app that brings people together over the social experience of board gaming. It allows people to borrow and share their collection of board games as well as join and host events like board game nights and meetups.
But who exactly is the audience? According to a 2016 survey by Quantic Foundry, a market research company surveyed about 41,000 gamers and found that the median age is 31, where 39% play once a month or less and 61% play at least once a week. Furthermore, in 2017, they found that Accessibility to board games was the third highest motivator for males and the highest motivator for females when it comes to playing them.
Part of the design process included establishing a user journey and user flow for the user experience and the  app interaction. In particular, the confirmation screens were designed such that there is no ambiguity that may confuse the user. For example, if the user was presented with ‘Are you sure?’ with a Y/N option it would quickly become confusing.
